Fans Hobby MonsterBots
The Fans Hobby Collection & Review

MB-01 ArchEnemy

MB-01 ArchEnemy was our first introduction to Fans hobby as they were a new company at that time fresh on to the scene. ArchEnemy is their interpretation of the Transformers RID line character name Scourge or Black Convoy depending on where you lived.  Scourge / Black Convoy was a Semi Truck with a trailer originally but did not include the trailer (as a side note the trailer is in it’s early prototype stages). The run was extremely popular among fans. With sharp paint applications and die-cast parts these bots are hefty. Joints were solid with many points of articulation and throw in the fact that these are all Masterpiece scaled Fans Hobby lit a fire under fans that has burned brightly since. MB-01 only includes a brilliant red sword to match the original release from the RID line. A gun is not included with this one though.

I do want to point out that is not a paid review I bought several of these bots myself and was only recently offered access to some test shot samples to provide first hand knowledge of upcoming products to our readers. So far it has been a privilege and an honor to work with these guys as they keep the fans up to date on their Facebook page and even take input on improvements from the fans, what more could you ask for? I also want to thank the infamous U.NEM Studios for letting us use their photos to showcase in our review. All other photos are by TF-Prototype.

MB-02 MegaTooth

MB-02 MegaTooth was Fans Hobby’s second release and much to our surprise it was of the MonsterBot we all knew as Repugnus from Generation One line. Repugnus was a two legged monster with a ant-like head with huge pincers located on his mouth and also additional sets for hands. It was quite an usual monster. Once again with great paint applications, die-cast, and MP scaling it was a hit among G1 and MonsterBots fans alike. I do want to point out this bot is CHUNKY with much die-cast due to the pincers.  The monster mode is quite fun due to its pose-ability and almost anime styled eyes due to the way it head was constructed. This though would be the only release by Fans Hobby not to have chromed out eyes while in robot mode, Fans Hobby would later correct this mistake but we will get to that part later. He does include one smaller rifle / pistol but it does not appear to attach anywhere on the monster mode sadly to say. This will be the only release to lack this feature at the time of writing this article.

MB-03 Fei Long

MB-03 Fei Long being Fans Hobby’s third release following on with the G1 MonsterBot line this was their version of DoubleCross. A wicked two headed winged dragon with much pose-ability surprisingly. Now was starting to build up a solid fan base as collectors took note of company still much in it’s infancy but making huge waves with surprising character choices and solid releases. This was not their only secret weapon though, they also seemed to be sticking to certain price points which in all out honesty fans usually pay more for this quality of work in the collector world. It includes dual rifles which can be mounted onto the monster mode. The hands can convert into canons and were never really hands, they were the dragon heads but Fans Hobby would also correct this for fans offering more choices later on.

MB-04 Gun Fighter II

MB-04 Gun Fighter II was the fourth entry into the thrid party Transformer world and this time they threw fans off their trail by producing their MP scaled version of  Generation Two Optimus Prime or other also known as Laser Prime. Optimus transformed into a semi truck exactly like MB-01 as in the original Transformers line the toy of Scourge / Black Convoy was actually a repaint of G2 Optimus Prime but Fans Hobby did not settle for a simple repaint. Instead they now finished out the opening chest mechanism and included a Matrix of Leadership made of dis-cast and highly detailed with a brightly glowing jewel in the center. He also included extra flaps used when in alt mode to better hide the legs and change the shoulder and chest molding. The head sculpt is top notch and very Gundam styled with possible antenna again which only added to the dynamics of this bot. Its really a beautiful piece any collector will be proud to own, much like their previous releases. This included a sword exactly like the one included with MB-01 but a clear-ish purple hue this time instead of red. Also included are two guns one is style like the original Optimus G1 gun in a highly glossed out plastic with main paint apps but interestingly enough when closely inspecting the second weapon you will notice it has a dull flat black finish… Exactly like the one found on MB-01 almost indicating it was meant to fill a void since MB-01 did not include a gun when released.

MB-05 FlyPro (Test Shot Review Sample)

MB-05 FlyPro is the 5th release now from Fans Hobby which will complete the Monsterbot line. This is their version Grotusque a colorful winged two legged creature with a head much like a saber tooth tiger. He includes a double barreled which can be mounted in monster mode as well. This uses many parts from the Fei long mold but once again changing and adding new molds and transformation techniques making the release very much it’s own feel. To take things one step further the include 2 extra faces for every monster bot (MB-02, MB-03, MB-05) and a new visor for Mega Tooth (MB-02) to give him that nice chrome eye effect, Also included are hands for Fei Long now giving you a total of three options available to you for hands. Also included are four sets (yes sets as each one is two pieces) of flame effects that make great use for monster mode firing effects and also as canon fire from Fei Long hidden cannons for example. On top of all this all three monsterbot bio cards are included. This release did not slack off on paint applications or die-cast nor did it mark up the price. This is really a feat and something of a true treat for all collectors of this line and a true loss for any who miss the set. This is something usually seen in much more expensive lines like Soul of Chogokin releases.

MB-06 PowerBaser

MB-06 is their next schedule release. This will their MP scaled version of Generation One Powermaster Optimus Prime / Super Ginrai. The core cab robot mode alone tests shots have shown it to be about te size or maybe slightly bigger than MP-10 before combining the trailer. This will an amazing piece if pulled off and a prize and joy to and masterpiece sized collectors and fans around the world. With Fans Hobby’s track record we suspect this to be a homerun but we will have to wait and see. We have have been offered a chance to possibly get a hands on look at the the review sample when the time comes but until then guys we will have to wait.

Many more greats are planned in the Fans Hobby line such as Nova Lord and RoadBuster. Fans Hobby is a real contender in todays 3rd party world and with their solid record of releases and considering the improvements deployed along the way matched with their price points rather you buy direct or save shipping and buy from one of our sponsors when combing multiple items do not miss out on these guys.

We would like to again thank Fans Hobby for a chance to preview some of these items to inform our fans and also U. NEM Studios for letting us use their photos in our Fans Hobby showcase. This has been a fun review to write and check out the differences in the line as they grew. The robots are very articulated and dynamic. With the addition of the extra faces included with FlyPRo suddenly the Monsterbots become extremely expressive with great face sculpts on each one. My only addition I could think of for these guys would be stands or maybe plaques but that would add to the cost of what we are paying now so I do mind seeking out my own stands but these bots are more than worth it.
